The footballer met with his former Arsenal coach, Arsene Wenger in London during the signing of two new players, Kelechi Nwakali and Samuel Chukwueze, to the UK club. The two youngsters were part of the Nigerian team that won the Under-17 World Cup in November last year. If I am correct, they will be the first Nigerians, since Kanu, to sign with Arsenal. Hausa Woman Beats Man for harrassing Her HusbandI

This happened during the monthly sanitation at the Ojodu Berger area of Lagos State.
It was reported that a boy was attacked by the drunk yoruba man during the sanitation. An Hausa man was reported to have tried to settle the dispute which annoyed the yoruba man who then transferred aggression to him.
This went on for a little time before the Hausa man’s wife spotted the attack on his husband and left for the scene.
It was later reported at the Ojodu Grammar school police station, where the officers dismissed them and advised them to treat each otherhttp://naijalane.com.ng/2016/01/30/hausa-woman-beats-man-for-harrassing-her-husband/.

I thought my N350,000 SUV was a bleI thought my N350,000 SUV was a blessing – Pastor nabbed with stolen vehiclessing – Pastor nabbed with stolen vehicle

On a 2005 edition of Mitsubishi Pajero parked on the premises of the Lagos State Police Command Headquarters, Ikeja, was a church sticker bearing the picture of a 32-year-old Presbyterian pastor from Umuahia, Abia State, Rev. Titus Onwuchekwa. In bold letters beside the pastor’s photo on the sticker are the words “Too blessed to be cursed”.
True to those words, Onwuchekwa, who was paraded alongside two notorious stolen car dealers by the police during the week explained that he thought God had brought a blessing his way, when he bought the SUV for a mere N350,000.
Onwuchekwa was paraded with the car dealers, 32-year-old Felix Osas, who sold the vehicle and 32-year-old Ndibe Samuel.
Ordinarily, a used 2005 edition of Mitsubishi Pajero is sold for between N1.4m and N1.8m but when Osas presented himself as the seller, he told Onwuchekwa that he could give up the vehicle for N500,000.
Onwuchekwa, who is popularly called ‘My father, my father’ in his church circles in Umuahia, said he had come to Lagos to attend a Christian programme when he sighted the 2005 Mitsubishi Pajero in Alaba area of Ojo, Lagos and he dialled the number of the seller pasted on the car.
“He gave me the price of N500,000 but I told him that I could only afford N350,000 and after we haggled a little, he agreed to sell the car. He said he would sow the car as a seed into my life for that amount provided I pray for him regularly.
“He said he needed regular prayers and I paid him N350,000 with a promise that anytime he needed prayer, he could call me and I would always pray for him.”
When asked if the cheap price of the vehicle did not raise his suspicion at all during the transaction, Onwuchekwa said he believed it was indeed a blessing that had come his way.
“I even went home to share the testimony of how I bought the vehicle,” he said.
What about the vehicle particulars and the Customs papers presented to him, Onwuchekwa said they all bore the names of Osas, which was what doused every suspicion he had.
But these are not enough to exonerate Onwuchekwa who continued to maintain his innocence.
Osas explained that few weeks after Onwuchekwa bought the Pajero, he contacted him again and asked to buy a 2001 Toyota Camry for N250,000, a vehicle which under a normal circumstance, he would have sold for at least N900,000.
This proved to be the nail on the coffin for Rev. Onwuchekwa as the police said he must have known he was buying a stolen vehicle if he did not mind coming back for a second car despite the suspicious price of the vehicles.
Osas, who runs Happy Home Motors, was all smiles as he narrated how Onwuchekwa fell victim of his criminal trade.
“I don’t think he actually knew that he was buying a stolen vehicle. If he did not come back for more, the police would not have arrested him along with us. I don’t steal these vehicles myself.
“In fact, I don’t knew where they came from. I got them from one of my friends, who told me to re-register them in my name. When I asked him where he got them, he confided in me that they were stolen.
“I bought the Pajero I sold to the Pastor for N300,000. I have only bought two vehicles from him before. I also bought the Camry from my friend for N300,000. It is the same one the pastor wanted to buy for N250,000.”
Osas said he had been selling vehicles for seven years after he realised that his initial business as a mechanic was not yielding profit as he wanted.
The young man did not show any remorse as he explained that it was the business he had been using to feed his family.
“I learnt car sales from my uncle and decided to establish a business of my own seven years ago. I actually did not set out to start selling stolen vehicles. It just happened that the prices were too cheap for me to avoid it.”
Samuel on the other hand, said he was not a stolen car dealer. He explained that he simply bought a vehicle from his in-law, which turned out to be a stolen vehicle.
“He told me that the 2001 model was fairly used and I bought it for N700,000. All the documents bear his name, so I did not suspect it might have been stolen. I am just a medicine store owner, not a criminal,” he said.
The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Fatai Owoseni, said the suspects would soon be charged to court.

Photo: Update on the young boy whose eyes were removed by ritualists in Kaduna

Remember the 3year old little boy named Abubakar Usman whose eyes were removed by some ritualists in Kaduna last week? Read story here. The boy's father, Usman Isa, says doctors at the Ahmadu Bello University have performed an operation on the little boy. According to Isa who spoke with Daily Trust, the doctors said the ritualists removed everything in the boys eyes and that there was no hope of him seeing again except by a miracle.
“The Kaduna hospital has referred us back to ABUTH. Doctors have conducted surgery yesterday. From what they told us, the perpetrators have removed everything that has to do with the eyes, which would make fixing them difficult. However, doctors said that they would review the operation to see the outcome, hoping they can fix artificial ones.”
He said the doctors said the artificial eyes would be fixed just to fill the holes, but not for the young boy to see. “Except if Allah performs a miracle,” he sobbed.
Meanwhile the grandmother of little Usman, Malama Hadiza Usman, narrated how she got to know that her grandson's eyes had been removed by ritualists while he was on his way to an evening Islamiyya class.
In tears, Malama Hadiza told Daily Trust that she would never forget the incident for the rest of her life. “I’d given him N5 to buy sweets on his way, on Sunday, January 24. He left the house with his brother Umar, but on their way they were intercepted by yet-to-be identified men who took him to an uncompleted building and gouged his eyes out.”
At the hospital, little Abubakar was telling those around him to open his eyes to enable him see his mother and grandmother. “Open my eyes, I want to see Mama. Mama, where are you? Where’s Grandma?” he kept wailing.

Female job seeker raped, robbed by Undergraduates

The police in Lagos have arrested two undergraduates for allegedly raping a job-seeker, identified only as Nike, and robbing her of valuables in the Igando area of the state.
PUNCH Metro learnt that the suspects, identified as Valentine and Kusimo, allegedly took turns to rape their victim after luring her into a hotel.
Valentine, an indigene of Imo State, was said to be seeing off the 27-year-old with the hope that she would not raise the alarm when Nike suddenly called for help.
The suspects were subsequently arrested and taken to the Igando Police Division.
The incident happened on Thursday, January 14, 2016, on Idowu Ibiyemi Street, in the Igando area of Lagos State.
A police source told our correspondent that Valentine and Nike had met on a dating site.
He said, “Valentine is a 400-level Civil Engineering student of a university in Imo State. He chatted up the lady on the dating site and from there, their conversation shifted to Whatsapp, a mobile messaging application.
“The suspect told his friend, Kusimo, about the girl and they decided to trick her. Kusimo, a student of a polytechnic in Ogun State, would sometimes take Valentine’s phone and be chatting with Nike, without the girl knowing that it was Kusimo.
“Having done that for some days, they decided to invite her to Lagos.”
It was gathered that Nike, an indigene of Osun State, travelled down from Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, where she was based, to the Igando area.
Our correspondent learnt that the victim and Valentine scheduled to meet at his house.
PUNCH Metro gathered that instead of taking her to his apartment, the suspect took her to a popular hotel in the area.
The source said, “The girl did not know she was taken to a hotel because he took her through the back into the room.
“The second suspect, had, however, hid inside the toilet. As the lady entered the room, Valentine shut the door and Kusimo jumped out from his hideout with a bottle. He smashed the bottle on the ground and he told the girl to cooperate or they would kill her.
“While Valentine had two rounds, the second suspect had three rounds of sex with her. After they had raped her, they robbed her of her BlackBerry and N15, 000.
“In order to prevent her from exposing them, they took snapshots of her nakedness and threatened that if she told anyone about her ordeal, they would put the pictures on the Internet.”
PUNCH Metro gathered that after committing the act, Valentine decided to see Nike off.
The victim was, however, said to have raised the alarm, drawing the attention of passersby.
She was said to have narrated what happened to people, which led to the arrest of both suspects.
They were detained at the Igando Police Division, before the matter was transferred to the State Department of Criminal Investigation, Yaba.
Another police source, however, said the suspects claimed that Nike agreed to mutual sex with them and only raised the alarm because she was not well paid.
She said, “How can you leave your place in Ibadan for Lagos and claim not to know what you are doing? It is not true that they raped her. She only wanted to make money off the men, and that was why she raised the alarm outside.
“The suspect said she demanded N200,000 for settlement and she is saying she does not want her fiancé and family members to be aware. She is not innocent.”
The Police Public Relations Officer, Dolapo Badmus, while confirming the incident, said the police had charged both suspects to court.
“Case charged to court,” she said in a text message.

Dino Melaye Goes For Obasanjo’s Jugular

The Chairman, Senate Committee on Federal Capital Territory, Senator Dino Melaye, on Thursday alleged that it was former President Olusegun Obasanjo that exposed the federal lawmakers to corruption during his tenure.
Melaye, in a statement issued in Abuja as a response to Obasanjo’s latest letter to the federal parliamentarians, also accused the retired General of misplacing his anger on the current members of the National Assembly.
Melaye said he had expected Obasanjo to have forgiven members of the Fourth National Assembly, who allegedly refused to impeach Speaker Umar Ghali Na’Abba, despite an alleged huge financial inducement.
The statement partly read, “I have tremendous respect for President Olusegun Aremu Okikiola Obasanjo, elder statesman, respected pan-Africanist and committed patriot.
“I went through the letter written to all senators and members of the House of Representatives.
“The letter, as I can see it, is a misplacement of anger. Our leader has mistaken the 8th National Assembly as the same National Assembly that defrauded him in 2007; that is those who collected his money and refused to implement the third term agenda.
“I appeal to Baba that we are not the ones please. After nine years of that bribery saga, the first of its kind, I expect forgiveness to have taken place.
“There was the case of bribery introduced by the Obasanjo regime in the desperate attempt to remove Speaker Ghali Umar Na’Abba from office then.
“In fact, there was an open display of that bribery money on the floor of the House.
“That (Obasanjo’s) government exposed the National Assembly to corruption and easy money.
“ I hope this is not in an attempt to cover up and distract attention from the Halliburton and Siemens corruption allegations? While I am against corruption anywhere in Nigeria, I will not support accusations based on anger and vindictiveness.
“The 8th Senate should also look inward and purge itself of all the deliberate misgivings of the past.
“Nigeria must work and we must support the anti-corruption stand of the Buhari Administration. God bless Nigeria.”

Obaigbena released after hours in EFCC custody

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has granted the Publisher of ThisDay Newspapers, Mr. Nduka Obaigbena, an administrative bail.
It was gathered that the EFCC’s Special Task Force investigating arms procurement scam under the former administration of President Goodluck Jonathan, had been interrogating Obaigbena since Tuesday.
The publisher is being investigated by the commission over the N670m he allegedly collected from the office of a former National Security Adviser, Col. Sambo Dasuki (retd.).
A reliable source confided in our correspondent that he was released on Wednesday evening after he allegedly agreed to refund the money he collected from Dasuki.
The money was part of the $2.1bn meant for the purchase of arms for the military to prosecute the war against the Boko Haram sect.
He was said to have reported on Tuesday to one of the two EFCC teams involved in the ongoing arms probe at the Idiagbon House headquarters of the commission.
A source in the EFCC said that investigations so far by the commission had revealed that Obaigbena allegedly deployed part of the money he got from Dasuki to finance his United Kingdom-based television station, Arise TV.
The EFCC’s operative disclosed that N568, 360, 000 was allegedly given to the Arise Global Media Limited, the promoters of Arise TV.
It was stated that the money was allegedly transferred from the account of General Hydrocarbon which received the funds from Dasuki on behalf of Obaigbena.
It was stated that the mandate from the first tranche of N150m indicated that it was paid for the purpose of an environmental security project while the balance was paid as an energy consulting fee.
It was gathered that the operatives were still probing to establish a link between the funds paid to General Hydrocarbon and the N120m paid to the Newspapers Proprietors Association of Nigeria.
“There is so far no established trail of funds moving from General Hydrocarbon’s account to the NPAN account which should have confirmed the claim by Nduka Obaigbena that he received money from the ONSA for onward delivery to NPAN members,” the source said.
It was stated that Obaigbena had already signed an undertaking that he would refund the money he collected from the ONSA in two weeks.
The source said that the undertaking was a pre-condition for an administrative bail granted him on Wednesday.
The Head of Media and Publicity of the EFCC, Mr. Wilson Uwujaren, had earlier on Wednesday told our correspondent that the publisher was being quizzed by the commission.
He had said, “Mr. Obaigbena is still with us.”
But as of 7pm on Wednesday, a source in the commission said Obaigbena had been granted an administrative bail.
Obaigbena had admitted in a letter to the commission in December that he got N670m from Dasuki as part of the compensation for the bombing of the Abuja office of ThisDay Newspapers.
He also stated that N120m was given to 12 media houses (The PUNCH not included) as compensation for the seizure of their newspapers in 2014 by soldiers.

I can’t speak on arms scandal now- Jonathan

Former President Goodluck Jonathan says he cannot speak on the current $2.1bn arms scam now because the matter is in court.
A former National Security Adviser, Sambo Dasuki; the National Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party, Olisa Metuh, and others are currently standing trial for their alleged role in the scam.
Jonathan, however, said in due time, he would tell his own side of the story.
The former President said this in a series of tweets on his official Twitter handle on Wednesday.
He said, “My voice will certainly be heard at the appropriate time regarding the alleged arms funds mismanagement. I would not want to interfere with the proceedings by the judicial system that my administration worked tirelessly to strengthen.
“My post-presidential focus is advancing democracy and good governance in Africa. If we do not spend billions to educate Africa’s youths today, we will spend it fighting insecurity tomorrow.”
Speaking separately on ‘Security, Education and Development in Africa’ at the Geneva Press Club in Switzerland, on Wednesday, Jonathan lamented the high rate of illiteracy in the North.
He said poor education was one of the factors promoting insecurity.
The former President, however, praised President Muhammadu Buhari for giving education a top priority in the 2016 budget.
Jonathan said, “Of course, charity begins at home and for the future, what Nigeria needs is to focus on making education a priority. Thankfully, the administration that succeeded mine in its first budget appears to have seen wisdom in continuing the practice of giving education the highest allocation. This is commendable.
“I feel that what people in my position, statesmen and former leaders, ought to be doing is to help build consensus all over Africa, to ensure that certain issues should not be politicised.
“Education is one of those issues. If former African leaders can form themselves into an advisory group to gently impress on incumbent leaders the necessity of meeting the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation recommended allocation of 26 per cent of a nation’s annual budget on education, I am certain that Africa will make geometric progress in meeting her Millennium Development Goals and improving on every index of the Human Development Index.”
The former President said he fought terrorism to a large extent and ensured that many perpetrators were arrested, prosecuted and jailed.

“The best present we worked and prayed so hard for is finally here. He’s got my fingers and big eyes and his daddy Erik’s mouth and chin. As we thank the angel of a woman that carried our miracle baby boy for us, we pray for everyone who struggles to reach this joyous milestone. York Banks Asla, welcome to the world,” she captioned the sweet picture .

Kanye West Lights Into Wiz Khalifa Over Misinterpreted Kim Kardashian Insult

Last night, seemingly on a whim, Kanye West tweeted that he’s changing the name of his upcoming album from
Swish to Waves . And while most people received the news with a shrug, Wiz Khalifa was pretty ticked off. He felt like the name disrespected Harlem rapper Max B, who describes his brand of hip-hop as wavy.
Wiz tweeted: “Max B is the wavy one. He created the wave. There is no wave without him.”
Wiz then returned to his primary hobby, smoking marijuana, and tweeted about indulging in his very own brand, Khalifa Kush, using the initials KK: “Hit this kk and become yourself.”
From there, things went downhill fast. Kanye noticed Wiz’s tweets and immediately lit into him, launching a two-pronged attack. The majority of the below have since been deleted but first, he abused Wiz over the quality of his music, tweeting:
At some point, Kanye stumbled upon Wiz’s tweet about smoking Khalifa Kush and misinterpreted the initials, KK, as a thinly-veiled reference to his wife, Kim Kardashian:
Wiz tried to explain but…too late:
It also should be noted that Wiz’s ex-wife is Amber Rose, who previously dated Kanye. Wiz and Rose share a child together. Apparently, Kanye saw that as fair game:
But between all the Hulked-out aggression, Kanye took a break to compliment Wiz about his sense of fashion:
After the lengthy Twitter spree – which recalled Kanye rants from the good ol’ days – the rapper called for peace:
And despite the bad blood, even Kanye recognizes the silver lining:

Former Chief of Air Staff spends third day in EFCC custody

The immediate past Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Adesola Amosu, has been undergoing marathon interrogation at the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission’s office since Wednesday.
The PUNCH reliably gathered on Thursday that two teams of the EFCC investigating the arms procurement fraud had taken turns to interrogate the former chief of air staff since he reported at the commission’s headquarters at 10.am on Wednesday.
It was learnt that between 10.30pm on Wednesday and 8pm on Thursday, Amosu had been quizzed for a total of 15 hours.
Findings showed that besides being quizzed, the former chief of air staff was asked to write a statement on the allegations by the presidential committee that investigated arms procurement under former President Goodluck Jonathan.
It was gathered that among other issues, he was quizzed over the alleged fraud that characterised 10 contracts of the Nigeria Air Force between 2014 and 2015, totalling $930.5m
It was learnt that most of the questions asked Amosu centred on the procurement of two used Mi-24V helicopters instead of the recommended Mi-35M series at the cost of $136.9m.
The helicopters were said to have been inflated and not operationally air worthy at the time of delivery. A brand new unit of such helicopters goes for about $30m.
Besides Amosu, it was learnt that the EFCC had also been interrogating another Air Vice Marshal, who had been taken into custody.
An EFCC operative, who confided in
The PUNCH, could not give the identity of the second military personnel being interrogated alongside the former Chief of Air Staff.
The source stated, “The interrogation of the former chief of air staff started around 10.30am on Wednesday and I think between yesterday (Wednesday) and 8pm today (Thursday), he must have been grilled for a total of 15 hours. He has also written a statement.”
President Muhammadu Buhari had, on January 15, directed the EFCC to probe 18 top officers of the military comprising both retired and serving personnel as part of the ongoing efforts to unravel the $2.1bn arms funds, allegedly mismanaged under the immediate past National Security Adviser, Col. Sambo Dasuki (retd.).
Another operative also confirmed that Amosu was detained by the EFCC on Wednesday and had been there since then.
“The former Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Adesola Amosu, came yesterday (Wednesday) in response to our invitation. We sent out invitations to them last week and they were expected to report with effect from Wednesday,” the operative said.
The Head of Media and Publicity of the EFCC, Mr. Wilson Uwujaren, said he did not have information on the detention of the former Air Chief when contacted.
“I don’t have that information,’’ he said.
It was also learnt that the EFCC on Wednesday started the interrogation of other 18 serving and retired military officers, who were ordered to be investigated by the President.
It was gathered that besides Amosu, others, who were quizzed on Wednesday, were asked to go home.
The officers, who are being investigated by the EFCC include a former Chief of Defence Staff, Air Chief Marshal Alex Badeh (retd.), and a former Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal M. D. Umar (retd.).
The EFCC is also investigating 11 serving officers, including Air Marshal A. M. Mamu (Chief of Administration, Nigeria Air Force); AVM Oguntoyinbo (former Director of Production, Defence Headquarters); AVM T. Omenyi (Managing Director, NAF Holdings); and AVM J. B. Adigun (former Chief of Accounts and Budget).
Others are AVM R. A. Ojuawo (Air Force Tactical Air Command, Markudi); AVM J. A. Kayode-Beckley (Director, Armament Research in Air Force Research and Development Centre); Air Cdre. A. O. Ogunjobi; Air Cdre G. M. Gwani, Air Cdre A.Y. Lassa; Col. N. Ashinze (Special Assistant to the former NSA, Dasuki;) and Air Cdr. S. O. Makinde.
The President’s Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Garba Sheu, had, in a statement on January 15, said the presidential panel’s findings indicated that the procurement processes were arbitrarily carried out and generally characterised by irregularities.
According to him, the panel also stated that in many cases, the procured items failed to meet the purposes they were procured for, especially the counter-insurgency efforts in the North-East.
He had said, “A major procurement activity undertaken by ONSA for NAF was that concerning the contracts awarded to Societe D’ Equipment Internationaux (SEI) Nig Ltd.
“The committee had said that between January 2014 and February 2015, NAF awarded 10 contracts totalling $930.5m.
It had stated that the letters of award and end user certificates for all the contracts issued by NAF and ONSA did not reflect the contract sums.”
Amosu had, in a report to Dasuki, said the four Alpha-Jet aircraft were delivered.
The panel had stated that the Alpha-Jets were non-militarised hence they could not be deployed in the North-East and that they were currently deployed only for training at NAF base, Kainji.
The presidential panel had said, “Furthermore, the procurement of the Alpha-Jets was contrary to the recommendation of the assessment team. The committee found that the conduct of Air Marshal Amosu was deliberately misleading and unpatriotic.
“The contract for the procurement of 36D6 Low Level Air Defence Radar for the NAF was awarded to GAT Techno Dynamics Ltd in April 2014 at the cost of $33m and was funded by ONSA.”
The radars were said to have been valued at $6m.

Seize any money in any foreign account that is traced to me- Akpabio tells FG

Former Akwa Ibom state governor and Senator, Godswill Akpabio, has asked the Federal government to seize any money in any foreign account that is traced to him. Akpabio said this in a statement he released today through his spokesperson, Anietie Ekong. He released the statement to debunk a newspaper report that he had made a secret attempt to withdraw $7.2 billion from banks in Dubai, United Arab Emirate, through channels in the Central Bank of Nigeria.
“We challenge these purveyors of falsehood to publish the full details of the purported $7.2 billion account and we urge the Federal Government of Nigeria to seize such sum and prosecute the owner if it does exist. People should learn to accept the outcome of elections and stop this kind of dangerous propaganda in the name of politics,” he said.
